What to Expect
This is on the top of the list of things to do in New Orleans!

Meeting in the French Quarter, you will learn of history from long ago, as well as the many types of architecture and how immigrants influenced history, paint colors, and the architecture!

Although this is the oldest cemetery in operation in New Orleans, your guide will disclose the first burial grounds in the city and another cemetery, which was in use before St. Louis #1. You will hear of burial customs, not commonly used in the United States. Prepare yourself!

The architecture in the cemetery is amazing! There are many different types of architecture, as well as burials in this cemetery.

See the massive Society tombs (the Italian, the French, the Batalion of Artillery, the Spanish, the Portuguese and many more!), the tomb of Homer Plessy, Bernard Marigny (the richest, youngest person to live in the city of New Orleans, the also brought the game of craps to America!), and the Protestant section (in a Catholic cemetery). You will be intrigued by the history and burial practices in this City of the Dead!

A 10 minute break for refreshments (not included in tour price) at the old train station, now a welcome center, will prepare you for continuing in the French Quarter in the last hour of your tour. Time permitting, your guide may take you through the center with history of the train station as well as Katrina information.

You will visit Armstrong Park, formerly known as Congo Square, where Voodoo rituals took place in days gone by. Sometimes you may hear the drumming from a Voodoo practitioner! Thursdays you may participate in the Farmer's Market, by locals.

You will next explore more French Quarter stories and the site of Marie Laveau's home, where she raised her children and practiced her Voodoo!

Onward to Jackson Square! You are now on the original ground where the city of New Orleans began! St. Louis Cathedral history is a must, as it is the oldest continuously operating Catholic cathedral in the United States! After finishing the tour make sure to visit for mass or the free tour of this amazingly beautiful cathedral.

The history of the flanking buildings on Jackson Square carry wonderful, surprising stories of the Baronnes Pontalba and Spanish rule. These include the Cabildo, the Presbytere and the Pontalba Apartment buildings.

Andrew Jackson sits boldly on his horse in the middle of Jackson Square, which was dedicated to him in 1851.
