Full description

Join this tour in the Manchac Swamp on a real life adventure for the whole family. Your local captains will take you on an exciting journey to explore Louisiana's abundant wildlife in the bayous of Cajun Country. Journey by boat, Cajun-style, for a tour through the heart of Southern Louisiana's swamplands. Your swamp boat will take you into the meandering bayous where you'll see moss-draped cypress trees, fascinating plant life, and the creatures who make their homes here. Listen to informative commentary as you sail into the bayou. Swamp creatures are used to seeing the tour boats, so you'll likely catch a glimpse of various birds, snakes, deer, and fish, and possibly even an alligator. As your boat drifts through the waterways, you will learn about the Louisiana Wetlands, the inhabitants of the swamp–particularly the life and habits of the American Alligator–as well as the unique history of the local Cajun town of Frenier.

It was a very short ride into the swamp, but we had Captain Danny who was great at commentating and knowledgeable about the animals. We saw a big alligator, rocky raccoons and hogs with their babies. The captain also had some live baby turtles and crawfish for us to view, and everyone had an opportunity to hold a young alligator. It was about an hour in and out from getting on the boat to being back on land.

The tour was lot slower than I expected (literally and figuratively) . You don’t really go all that far in the water. BUT we did see a lot of alligators and got to hold a baby alligator. The tour guide could of talked just a tad less (he would give information and then say he was joking like every other minute) but he was friendly and did help make the tour interesting overall.

Going out to see the swamp was a great tour to do outside of the city. We liked our guide, he was funny, kept the tour lively, and had some very fun stories to tell. The hotel pickup was really convenient (though we had to walk a mile to the closest pickup spot and the pickup time was confusing **the time you choose is your tour time, not your pickup time). What I didn’t like about the tour was that they feed the gators marshmallows. I understand that these gators are practically pets on private property and of course it’s fun to watch the alligators get fed, but surely there’s a better snack to feed them?
