What to Expect
Join Art of Hope Tour to explore the slums of New Delhi from a more inspiring artistic side. The 3.5-hour walk will introduce you to folk art performances by the leading artists of India, and showcase the life and spirit of folk artists who have charmed the country for generations.
Most of these artists belong to the lower caste and their lives have never been easy. Despite that they always bring a smile to the face of others with their entertainment.
The tour starts with a guided walk of Kathputli Colony, the abode of puppeteers, magicians, drum beaters, and folk artists. See the effortless hand and foot movements of the Chari Dance from Rajasthan, and watch as the vivid hues and rustic charms of rural life come alive during a Kachchi Ghodi Dance.
The famous Ghoomar, Rajasthan's popular folk dance, gets its name from pirouetting, which displays the spectacular colors of the flowing long skirts of Rajasthani women. While the Dandiya Dance was originally performed in honor of the Goddess Durga.
Enjoy the nail biting and spectacular Bhawai Dance, in which women dancers with veils balance up to 7 or 9 brass pitchers over their head as they gracefully sway, and watch the electrifying Fire Dance stunts of the Banjara community.
You will also see a puppet show, one of the most popular sources of entertainment in Rajasthan. Then, after the shows, interact with artists and learn a few dance steps of your own!
