What to Expect
Discover the ornate Rajput architecture of the “Pink City” of Jaipur on a 2-day tour from Delhi. Journey across country on the 5-hour transfer, stopping at the Jal Mahal in the middle of Man Sagar Lake before your hotel check in. You will then spend 2 days discovering some of the Maharajas of India’s most elaborate constructions, including the Amber Fort, which you will climb up to on elephant back. See cultural shows, learn how to pot, and more.
Day 1: Delhi - Jaipur
Following a pick-up at Delhi Airport (or other Delhi location on request), drive to Jaipur for your overnight stay in the capital of Rajasthan. Admire the terracotta architecture that gives it the nickname “Pink City.” Go to the beautiful Jal Mahal, stunningly set in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Admire how the red-sandstone palace appears as if it were floating, a testimony to the ambitious nature of early Indian architecture.
Check in to your hotel for lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. You are free to relax at the hotel, or venture off to see more of Jaipur’s pink monuments. In the evening, depart for a traditional meal and Rajasthani dance and puppet shows at an ethnic resort. You can even learn how to make a pot. Return to the city for your overnight stay.
Day 2: Jaipur - Delhi
Check out of the hotel after breakfast, and relax on the drive to the Amber Fort. The Rajput-style fortress is situated atop a hill overlooking Maota Lake. Climb the hill on the back of an elephant outfitted with an ornamental covering and saddle. Then, explore the formidable palatial complex, built from red sandstone and marble, and divided into 4 main sections. Your guide will take you on a dazzling tour of the ornate mirror work, paintings, carvings, and murals.
Next, drive to Hawa Mahal, built in the form of the crown of the Hindu god Krishna. Admire the harmonious mix of Hindu-Rajput architecture on its domed canopies, and the Islamic-Mughal influence of its arches, featuring delicate metalwork patterns.
Finally, go to the heart of Jaipur to visit the City Palace complex with its impressive gardens and historic buildings, including the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. See the fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European architecture. Visit the museum in Chandra Mahal to admire the rich collection of royal costumes and Rajput weapons. Then, journey back to Delhi towards the end of the day, for a late evening arrival.
