What to Expect
After arriving in Delhi, meet your representative and start your introduction to the highlights of New Delhi and Old Delhi. On this guided tour dedicated to the Mughal capital of Shahjahanabad now known as Old Delhi, visit the great Jama Masjid, Asia’s largest and most important mosque.
Ride like a local as you set off on an exciting rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the bustling main street of Old Delhi known as Silver Square (once the center of Delhi) to the various sights of interest such as the royal Mughals would have done centuries ago.
Admire Red Fort, the residence of the Mughal emperor for nearly 200 years until 1857. Located in the center of Delhi and housing a number of museums, the Red Fort is named for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstone. On Independence Day (15 August), the Prime Minister of India delivers a nationally broadcasted speech from its ramparts altering hoisting the tricolor national flag at the main gate of the fort. Afterwards, visit Rajghat, the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.
Drive through the colonial heritage of Lutyen’s Delhi, covering the President House (from outside), the official residence of the President of India and formerly the residence of the Viceroy of India. Later see India Gate, a majestic high arch 42 meters high, built as a memorial to the Indian Soldiers killed in WWI.
Afterwards admire Qutab Minar, built to celebrate the victory of Mohammed Ghori over the Rajput King Prithviraj Chauhan in 1192 AD by his then viceroy, Qutb-ud-din Aibak, who later became the first Sultan of Delhi of the Mamluk dynasty. Qutab Minar is a 72.5 meters high tower dating back to the 13th century and one of the greatest bequests of Islamic culture. According to your flight/ train schedule, you will be driven to back to the airport/ railway station for your next destination.
