Visit the Akshardham Temple, across the Yamuna River, fast becoming one of the top attractions in Delhi. Stroll through the temple gardens and temple interior, and see about 20,000 statues of Hindu sadhus, devotees, and acharyas.
What to Expect
Enjoy a full-day exploring one of Delhi’s top attractions at the Akshardham Temple, located near the banks of the Yamuna River, and close to the site of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
You will depart from your Delhi hotel between 09:00-10:00 for the drive to the Akshardham Temple. The marvelous structure tells much about Indian culture and its history, and as you walk through the beautiful gardens, water fountains, and floral motifs, you will encounter approximately 20,000 statues of Hindu sadhus, devotees, and acharyas.
Built in 2005 by an army of more than 3,000 volunteers and 7,000 artisans, the first remarkable feature you will see is the gate, a reflection of the 10 directions of Indian culture, and inviting goodness from all directions. Next, walk across the 2 gates known as the “Gate of Devotion,” and “Twin Peacock Gate.” Look at the 869 sculpted peacocks.
Break for lunch in the huge food court, with various delicacies on offer. You can also shop from the souvenir store, where you will find religious books, herbal medicines, and other interesting items at reasonable prices.
Continue exploring the temple complex with a walk to the Yagnapurush Kund, with its stunning musical fountain at the center, where a 15-minute show, with respective musical instruments, is showcased every evening.
Next visit the “Hall of Values,” also known as “Sahajanand Darshan.” Watch a 50-minute animatronic show that describes the universal values of humanity through robotic figures. You will then be presented with a 40-minute film on a large format screen, which tells the story of a child yogi called Neelkanth, who became Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
End the tour with a 15-minute boat ride through “Sanskruti Vihar.” Traveling in a peacock-shaped boat through an artificial lake, you will get a lucid presentation of 10,000 years of Indian culture.
After a full-day of exploring the temple and manicured gardens of Akshardham, your driver will take you back to Delhi for a drop-off at your hotel.
