Things to do in Neive

We always start with the tasting of our 7 references, during which presentations are made and we all sit together to taste the wines accompanied by some typical local products. We tell the story of the wine you are drinking, how it was grown, when it was still grapes in the vineyard, and how it was processed in the cellar. Meanwhile, the dishes also arrive, within which you can find numerous typical local products, each to be paired with a different wine. We start with the Roero Arneis, the only white among the reds, a fresh and fruity wine: it is accompanied by tuna sauce. We then move on to red wines with Dogliani, which we usually pair with salami. First the Dogliani DOCG "Sambù", an easy to drink and light wine, which introduces the Dogliani DOCG "Superiore", more structured and complex. Nebbiolo and Barbera are paired with lard and bacon: the former is fresh and young, the latter is soft and fruity. Subsequently we will taste the Langhe "Excelso" blend of several wines to be tasted with meliga pasta (typical Piedmontese biscuit). And then the last but not least wine, the king of wines, the wine of kings: Barolo, to be tasted with cheese and cugnà (halfway between jam and sauce, it is made with fresh fruit and dried fruit ). After the tastings, we move to the cellar, where you can see how we work to create the wines you have just tasted: fermentation, the decanting and aging tanks, and finally the bottling and labeling phase.

We will walk along the streets of Neive and admire fortified houses, baroque villas with lovely gardens and rural churches, before reaching the Clock Tower for an unforgettable view of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato UNESCO heritage areas. Not to be missed a stop at the "Donna Selvatica" Museum, a tribute to the work of ROMANO LEVI, well known for his grappa distillery. He and his sister LIDIA, following the family tradition, used to produce a unique Grappa, embellished with colorful and unique hand-drawn poetic labels by Romano. Discover the scenic hills of Barolo and Barbaresco, two of Piedmont’s flagship wine areas, on a sommelier-led wine tour. Begin in the picturesque cities of Asti for a brief introduction to the area. We arrive to our first winery visit in Barolo area, meet the family members, take a tour of the production part to learn how wine is made, take a walk in the vineyard to learn about the noble grape Nebbiolo, and then enjoy a tasting of several different wines from the area. After this visit, stop to take some pictures of the landscape and have lunch at a local Osteria for a typical meal. Then head over to the area of Barbaresco where you will visit one of the small medieval villages of this area and then off to your second winery visit for more fun with a winemaking family, and of course more wine tasting. After this second visit has concluded, return back to the town of Asti so you can stop to have an aperitivo before heading on your way.

You'll meet your driver before traveling in comfort as you admire the wonderful surrounding landscapes full of vineyards and hazelnut groves. After about an hour's drive, you will arrive at the first winery carefully chosen for you by your guides. The tour includes a visit to the structure and the cellars, as well as a tasting of four wines with a sommelier. Your tour will last about 1.5 hours, and once finished you will stop for your lunch break, enjoy a typical Piedmontese lunch After lunch, you'll move on with your van to reach Neive. Its historic center retains a medieval layout, with cobbled streets leading up to the clock tower and elegant terracotta buildings. This combination of attributes has helped Neive become widely considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Following your free time, you will reach the second winery where a sommelier will guide you in a tasting, following which you will return back to Turin.

Enjoy the city centre before continuing to La Morra; once called one of the most beautiful Hamlets in the world. Visit a winery and you will have the opportunity to try some of the region's most famous wines, such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Roero and Barbera. After your wine tasting session enjoy a light lunch in a typical Trattoria with a full view of landscapes of the Langhe Hills and see why they are a UNESCO heritage listed site. Once you have finished your delicious lunch you will be driven back to Turin by your guide and driver. 

In a small winery in Neive you will be welcomed by the person who tends and assists the vineyards every day, and in his company you will begin an immersive walk through the vineyard. You will see with your own eyes the commitment, professionalism and devotion necessary for a high quality harvest to be achieved. Depending on the time of the carrying out of the experience you might discover the small buds, smell the faint scents at the time of flowering, observe the pruning work, recognize the right time for harvesting or smell the scent of the must bubbling in the vats. A tasting of five of the winery's wines, with a charcuterie and cheese board to match, will be the perfect conclusion to the experience. There will be no shortage of Barbaresco, a DOCG wine produced from nebbiolo grapes, an excellence of the area. Seasons among the rows: February, March - the pruning; March - the departure; April - the budding; May - the flowering; June, July - the veraison; August, September - the harvest; October, November - the bubbling of the vats (and tasting of the must).

Get back on the saddle and arrive in the center of Barbaresco where you can go and taste a selection of wines from a historic cellar in the area and visit the streets of this beautiful town. Return to the starting point passing by white roads and vineyards up to Neive to the meeting point where you can taste a glass of Barbaresco wine. 1-2 tastings at local wine producers will be included in the itinerary. the products for tasting and the participating companies (and with them the itinerary) may undergo variations depending on the seasonality of the products themselves and the possibilities and availability of the producers linked to the agricultural work of the period and will be confirmed in the vicinity of departure.
