Our driver was fantastic - knowledgeable and very competent at managing the traffic. Lunch stop was excellent. We had a big thunderstorm while touring the park and the ranger navigated it expertly. Saw loads of animals- cobra, elephants, spotted dear, mongoose - no leopards but that’s OK. It was a long day

This was exceptional. While it is a long trip from Negombo, the pick-up and drop-off transfer is very professional and prompt. Our safari, particularly our driver, was very good. We saw a fair few animals and were very blessed to see a leopard. My only recommendation is that people research the national park fees before booking as they can be expensive. However, I believe that they are worth it.

Full description

Spend a day at the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka - Wilpattu, which is also among the top national parks and world-renowned for its leopard population. The park is unique to others in the country with its dense country woodland and masses of birds, lying inland from the coast in the Northern Province.

Meet your guide at your accommodation in Negombo and begin your journey around 10.00 AM. Reach Wilpattu National Park after approximately 4 hours.

Wilpattu is 508 square miles (131.694 hectares) and was declared as a National Park in 1938. The special feature of this park is the large number of Villus (lakes), where you can watch wildlife and many species of birds. Leopards and elephant herds are the most famous animals in the park. Spotted Deer, Sambhur, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, Sloth Bear, Mongoose, Crocodile, and Peacocks are also found here. After your safari, enjoy a local lunch at the Puttalam Hotel then return to your accommodation.

Was our first trip of our visit and didn’t disappoint. Obviously a safari isn’t guaranteed sighting but we saw them all from elephants to leopards. Our drier got us there on time and safely and our safari jeep your guide/driver was very knowledgeable and attentive. He pointed out animals we would never have spotted by ourselves. Always stopped for plenty of time for pictures and questions. And the harder to find animals such as leopards and elephants he circled around several times to try and find them for us and did not disappoint. The day was slightly longer than 10 stated but this was due to being in the safari around 4 hours instead of the 3 which we had no complaints about. We had the opportunity to see all the animals we wanted to see. 5* trip and if you enjoy animal sightseeing/safari this is an excellent option.
