Visit the restored Demeter’s temple in Sangri from circa 530 B.C. and the museum with local findings. Continue to the oldest Citron distillery of the Naxos, dating back to 1896, in Halki. There, take the chance to taste the local Citron drink. A visit to Apeiranthos will give you the chance to see the famous marble village and shop in local traditional shops. Next, as the bus heads north to Apollonas, your tour allows you to see the remnants of the old emery mines and their machinery. A great way to see more of Naxos beyond the resorts. Travelling through the mountains was wonderful. The first stop was at the Temple of Demeter, where there is a nice museum too. We stopped at Halki to visit the distillery and pottery shop, which I both enjoyed, although I would have liked to see a bit more of the village. We had lunch at Apeiranthos, a lovely village in the mountains. Then we drove north to Apollonas - if you want something to eat or drink there, order immediately. A brief stop to see the Kouros (it isn't really one, but that's another story), then we drove back along the north and west coast to Chora. A lovely day out, especially if you don't have your own transport. Nikolaos, born in Naxos, was full of local knowledge and kept us informed along the way. Makis/Mikis was an excellent driver, navigating the narrow, twisting roads without any problem. There are steps and climbing hills involved. You also have to pay entrance fees at the temple and distillery.

We really enjoyed our Naxos tour - our guide was Nicholas and he was full of interesting facts and stories about Naxos. We covered a lot of the island including a kitron distillery, a pottery, an olive press. We also visited Apeiranthos which is a very old village made entirely of Naxian marble. We had lunch by the sea in Apollan. Very nice day - highly recommend this tour!!

I highly recommend this tour. Nico, our guide, was fun and friendly and very knowledgeable. Our driver was a pro on the narrow roads that wind in and out of hilly country. The sites chosen ranged from fun and entertaining to educational and fascinating. We had a small group and made friends instantly. It was really a special day.
