Lisbon Tiles and Tales: Full-Day Tile Workshop and Tour

7. Lisbon Tiles and Tales: Full-Day Tile Workshop and Tour

The beautiful Azulejo tiles you see in Lisbon and around Portugal are the result of an art form with a long history in the country that began during the Arabic occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. You’ll begin this 8-hour tour heading south of Lisbon to the beautiful Azeitão region, where you’ll visit the well-known Azulejos de Azeitão workshop. Learn how the tiles have been made over the years, as old techniques are still used to replicate centuries-old art. After learning the basics about the art, you’ll have a chance to paint your own tile, which will be baked later and sent to your hotel in Lisbon, or back home if your prefer (cost of shipping not included). After a busy morning, choose where you’d like to have lunch with your guide: The fishing village of Sesimbra is just a short drive away. Return to Lisbon and, en route, admire some of the most impressive tile artwork around the city. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the lovely Madre de Deus Convent, dating from the 15th century, and home to the Azulejo Museum. The interior of the church is a Baroque masterpiece, considered to be a total piece of art, where all elements were designed to form the perfect whole. The Museum features an impressive collection of tiles, ranging from the 15th century to contemporary artists, and includes the most important international schools, as the Spanish and Dutch, among others. End the visit seeing some iconic pieces from Portuguese masters such as Bordalo Pinheiro, Raúl Lino, and Maria Keil, among others.

Hello, so concerning the lisbon card, I hesitated a little at first; but after thinking it over quickly, I thought it might be worth it. Well yes and I will detail: first use on Thursday AM we took transport 5 times and visited Sé (1€ reduction): Friday we took transport 10 times and included visit of the elevator, tower of belem, monastery coach museum and pillar 7 (full day): on Saturday we took transport 6 times and included a visit to the arc de triomphe (half day dedicated to almada and christ where nothing is included you have to pay for everything): the Sunday after the fireworks we took a transport to the airport. All in all, the 72-hour card costs €44 and without it we would have had it for €70: We made the most of transport to make chip jumps and save time - We still had half a day left to use it if we weren't supposed to leave early on Sunday

The pick up was very easy! I was able to pick up my Lisboa cards at the airport right outside of baggage claim. This is an amazing tool to get around Lisbon (free transit on metro, busses, and some outbound trains like the ones that goes to Sintra). Perfect tourist card and I cannot recommend enough

I got this card at noon on Saturday, and used it until the next day at noon time and it was the best choice to make as I can enjoy many famous destinations in Lisboa and use the transportation (including the famous Tram 28) to those destinations with no charge.

Good to get around Lisbon, most museums were closed for the holidays but the pas scan still be used for other things.

We have taken out the 48-hour one and we have paid it off almost the first day.
