Full description
Spend 4 days exploring national parks on the lookout for the region's Big 5: elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and Cape Buffalo. Spend 3 nights in camps located near and within the national parks with the luxury of full-board and expert guides. Day 1  The day starts with pickup from your accommodation in Port Elizabeth, then head out on a full-day safari in Addo Elephant National Park. Addo is the third-largest national park in South Africa and home to a huge variety of wildlife, including more than 700 elephants, as well as lion, the endangered black rhino, Cape buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, antelope, an array of bird species, and the unique Addo flightless dung beetle. Dinner and overnight at a camp on the edge of the park. Day 2 The tour heads to the Mountain Zebra National Park. Opened as a nature reserve for the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra, today the park has more than 700 species of wildlife including zebra, cheetah, lion, buffalo, eland, kudu, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, blesbok, and gemsbok. In addition, keep an eye out for some rare wildlife such as the aardwolf, bat-eared fox, and caracal. Explore the park on a 2-hour game drive. Dinner and overnight within the national park. Day 3 Get an early start and join a game ranger to track cheetahs on foot. Spend 3 hours locating these elusive big cats and understand their behavior. Next up, tour Nieu Bethesda, a village in the Great Karoo heartland of South Africa. Situated at the foot of the Sneeuberge Mountains, this little village offers views of vast open plains and majestic mountains. Dinner and overnight in the village of Nieu Bethesda. Day 4 Start with a visit to the legendary "Owl House", a famous landmark in the village of Nieu Bethesda. Enjoy the quirky sights and sounds of this unique town. Next, head to Camdeboo National Park. A stone's throw from one of the oldest towns in South Africa, Graaff-Reinet, lies the majestic Valley of Desolation. This awe-inspiring valley is the product of the volcanic and erosive forces of nature over a period of 200-million years and its rock columns and never-ending views provide some of the most unique scenery in South Africa. After lunch, the tour returns to Port Elizabeth.
