Vienna: Food, Coffee, and Market Discovery Tour

Vienna: Food, Coffee, and Market Discovery Tour

You begin your Vienna tour on one of the most famous and attractive shopping streets in the city: The Graben, where is imperial architecture, opulent coffee shops, and first-rate eateries. Firstly we will stop for a quick coffee and a snack. However, this won't be at one of the famous cafes, because only tourists go there. Instead, you will head to one of the few cafes that locals still visit — a proper and still functioning Kulturcafe. To Nasch means "to nibble" and that is exactly what you can do at the Naschmarkt, easily one of Europe’s best open-air markets. While the Naschmarkt is a must-see, any local will tell you that they rarely pay it a visit as they have their own local market that they like to visit. These may not be as big as the Naschmarkt, but they are certainly more lively and less touristy. To that end, you will be whisked away from the Naschmarkt to a real functioning Viennese market. Whether that be the trendy Brunnenmarkt in the 16th district with its cafes and creativity, the lively Viktor–Adler–Markt in the traditionally working-class 10th district, or even the peaceful farmers market at Karmeliterplatz in the 2nd district, will depend on the day and the guide. At our first local market, we will enjoy our first lunch where we will indulge in wonderful typical Austrian food (schnitzel, goulash, or a vegetarian option for example) and wash it down with locally produced wine or beer. We will also show you the sweet side of Vienna and treat you to the chef's best dessert. Next, your guides will introduce you to some Viennese guilty pleasures, sweet and savory, and life on the streets that no guidebook would ever mention. Pausing to take in Wurstelstand life offers you the chance to taste Austrian’s favorite dish (hint: it’s not schnitzel), while grabbing a cheeky beer or spritzer (soft drinks are available) that will help you re-hydrate after the buzz of the markets. Along the way you will sink into the famed Viennese coffee culture.

A great way to explore the city for the first time. However, the headphones didn't always work. The bus drivers' unannounced smoking breaks were very unpleasant. When it felt like 30°C, the bus suddenly stopped for about 10 minutes and the bus driver got out without telling the passengers anything. We then saw the driver chatting with other bus drivers outside while smoking. This happened to us on every route.

Such a great experience with Marianna! She was knowledgeable, patient and helpful in so many ways. The choices of restaurants and topics were perfect. Through experiencing Austrian food we were introduced to the ins and outs of Viennese life. Totally worth every penny. Be prepared to eat a lot. Everything was delicious and fun! My kids (12 and 18) also loved it.

The guide tour was excellent. Our guide gave us a very detailed explanation about interesting sites around the city. Totally worth it.

Excellent tour with the electric bikes. Sam was a great host and gave loads of information. The tour was fabulous fun.

Very good. Guide knows in depth for every details we asked. Very happy.
