Full description

Travel back in time to the devastating day in 79 AD the brooding volcano of Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the Roman city of Pompeii beneath molten ash.

On arrival, follow your expert guide on a 2-hour tour through the remains of this UNESCO world heritage site remarkably frozen in time for almost 2,000 years.

Hear stories about the Forum, Thermal Baths, the Lupanare, the Greek Theatre, and plaster casts of the bodies of Pompeii people burnt by volcanic ashes and lapilli during the eruption in 79 A.D.

Savor a typical Naples lunch of pizza at one of Pompeii’s cafés. Then, be driven close to the summit of the mountain that destroyed it. From there, it's just a walk to the lip of the crater.

The only active volcano in continental Europe, Vesuvius has erupted many times, but it was the destruction of Pompeii and its surrounding towns that made it most famous. Climb to the top, and walk around the crater, taking in the atmosphere of the smoking mountain.

Enjoy the stunning views over the Bay of Naples. Return to Naples at approximately 5:00 PM and be dropped off at your hotel, the cruise ship, or the railway station.

One is asked to telephone the local trip provider the evening before, to confirm pickup location. I have studied Italian for over 60 years, but I do not feel confident talking on the phone. It is worse for those who have never studied it. We were lucky that our hotel made the necessary call. GetYourGuide needs a better way to handle this. There were two problems with the afternoon trip to Mt. Vesuvius: o The end of the road for the bus is well short of the summit. From there you walk, and it's a steep climb. We were allowed 1:25 for this walk, both ways. This is not enough. We could easily have left the lunch site ½ hour earlier, which would have allowed enough time. o On that bus, we were told that we could leave things on it, as we would be taken back to our hotel on the same bus. We did so. When we were ready to go, they herded us on to a different bus. We were lucky that our original bus was still there, so we could recover what we had left.

Great tour. Picked me up promptly from the hotel. Really nice, new coach to get us to the destinations. All staff really friendly and helpful. Francesca especially who toured us around Pompeii was very knowledgeable and entertaining. It was rainy weather, but cleared up nicely for the walk up Vesuvius. The climb wasn't was bad as I was expecting as its a slope not steps which is easier on the legs. It was cold though in Oct, so take a few layers. Overall, great day and very professional throughout.

The Pompei tour was a bit short but informative. You have not too much tine to climb Mount Vesuvius and be back to the bus in time. The lunch is a basic pizza/pasta meal, but there is not too much other opportunity so it is recommended to pay for it to have some energy to climb the mountain. Good shoes are necessary!
