Enjoy a combined day tour to Mount Vesuvius and the ruins of the Roman town it destroyed in 79 AD at Pompeii. Stand on the ridge of the crater and look out on magnificent views of the Bay of Naples.
What to Expect
Travel back in time to the devastating day in 79 AD that the brooding volcano of Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the Roman city of Pompeii beneath molten ash. You will be picked up from your hotel in Naples and transferred by air-conditioned coach to the site of the ruins.
On arrival, your expert guide will take you on a 2-hour tour through the remains, to see a city remarkably frozen in time for almost 2,000 years. One of the most popular destinations in the world, you will hear stories about the Forum, Thermal Baths, Vetti’s House, and the Lupanare. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruins provide a unique glimpse into everyday life of a Roman city, and you can imagine the sights, scents, and sounds of the times.
Following a typical Naples lunch of pizza at one of Pompeii’s cafés, you will then be driven close to the summit of the mountain that destroyed it. From there, it's just a short walk to the lip of the crater.
The only active volcano in continental Europe, Vesuvius has erupted many times, but it was the destruction of Pompeii and its surrounding towns that made it most famous. Climb to the top, and walk around the crater, taking in the atmosphere of the smoking mountain. Enjoy the stunning views over the Bay of Naples.
You will return to Naples at approximately 17:00, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
