As expected there were a lot of people visiting Pompeii. We had prebooked tickets (skip the line) and entered from Piazza Esedra, Porta Marina Inferiore which was not too crowded. We were there just after 9am. Sections 6/7 and 8 were the most crowded and some of the houses had long queues. The other sections were much less visited and hardly any people inside the houses that were possible to visit.

The site is great and impressive and definitely you need at least 3 days to explore it. I think they should improve some marketing as we could not get any free leaflets or maps. The guy at the tourist office near train station showed us the map, but he said map is available only with the book which costs €15. There is no signage to the site when you leave train station in Pompeii, we been told to turn left and walk 30min. The site is huge and is easy to lost. We found only one cafe shop with toilets, so make sure you have some water with you as it's very hot. Also for some houses or gardens there should be boards with the descriptios. Book a guide, audio or buy a guide book otherwise you will be clueless what you see.

Provide an audio guide, sun hats. Drinking water on site but watch out for wasps and hornets. The visit to the Archaeological Museum of Naples was essential for us to understand the richness and history of Pompeii. You have to do both! Villa tours were closed in the afternoon and there were no guides! Luckily we had visited the Naples museum.
