Full description
This full-day trip combines an overview of the beautiful Amalfi Coast, with a visit to the stunning remains of Pompeii, and a lunch at Vesuvius, the brooding volcano that buried Pompeii under ash back in 79 AD. Following a morning pickup from downtown Naples, drive to Pompeii to visit the ruins. During this section of the tour, there will be an assistant on the bus to answer your questions. Arrive in Pompeii and join a tour guide. Located under the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted in the last 100 years, Pompeii is as fascinating as it is mysterious. With its perfect stone-paved streets, houses, temples, a Forum, and theaters, it provides an almost complete picture of what was once a thriving Roman city. You will tour the ruins for approximately 2 hours, as your guide leads you through the theater, the necropolis, the Thermae, and some aristocratic houses that were owned by the city’s richest citizens. Continue to a local cameo and corals factory, close to the ruins, to watch the manufacturing process. There will be about 30 minutes of free time to shop for souvenirs, before you head for lunch at a local restaurant. Continue after lunch with a drive along the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Sit back and relax as panoramic vista after vista passes you by. You will pause for photo opportunities from the top of a hill in Sorrento and Positano, and continue to visit a typical ceramics workshop. End your tour with a 30-minute break in the town of Amalfi. Lying at the foot of a deep ravine, and surrounded by steep cliffs, it is a dramatic location to grab a coffee, or gelato, and simply watch the world go-by. Your driver will then take all guests back to Naples.

Satisfactory but not great, overall. We went by a bus to Pompeii - can't recall the name of the female guide but she wasn't that good. The English was difficult to understand ...some of the other groups around the site seemed to been enjoying far more than us. it didn't help that was a dual language tour - English + Italian, so the guide had to repeat everything in both languages. Would have much preferred an English only tour. After Pompeii, we had a perfectly decent lunch for which we only had to pay for drinks. The tour continued to the Amalfi coast where the tour guide was Valentina who was very good and she made it very lively. The coast itself is very beautiful. There was a couple of short stops in a couple of shops that were probably unnecessary and made the overall day longer than it needed to be. This meant we returned at around 5:30 PM rather than the expected 4 PM. Overall, the experience was reasonably enjoyable although could have been more efficient.

We had a tour group of Italian and English, so the guide would say something in one language, followed by the other language. Pompeii was huge and this tour only spent a little bit of time there - so we only saw some of the highlights. It was raining hard on our day, but it was still fun to explore! The Amalfi coast was quick (except for some traffic as the streets were so narrow). I would definitely choose to stay a couple of nights instead of just one afternoon drive. The tour bus broke down on the way back to town (overheated) and took an extra hour to get back to the hotel.

Great day

This was a great days visit to Pompei and Amalfi coast, very good details on Pompei but lost time during visit due to different nationals within group so different languages where needed for each which lost time during the two hour visit. Two hours not long enough for Pompei, so worth visiting separately from the coastal tour. Coastal tour excellent with great views and good information given by guide, it’s a must for anyone wanting to visit this area.
