What to Expect
Experience the wonders of ancient Pompeii and the majesty of Mt. Vesuvius on this private full-day tour from Naples.
Travel by car from Naples along the Sorrentine peninsula to Pompeii. At the Pompeii site, your guide will accompany you as you explore the main areas of interest in the ancient city. Buried for almost 2,000 years, Pompeii is now an open-air museum where you can walk through the former city streets and see the perfectly preserved remains uncovered by archaeological excavations. Explore wonderfully preserved villas with ornate mosaic tiling, cobbled streets, and evocative household effects.
After lunch, depart for Mt. Vesuvius. Head to the 1,000-meter point by car and then, if you wish, you can hike the rest of the way to the crater. Zigzag along paths of volcanic gravel and take in amazing views of the Neopolitan coastline. Peer 700 feet down into the crater and have the option of venturing inside the crater itself for a small additional fee.
Should you wish, there is the option of hiring a local guide to accompany you around the crater and tell you more about the volcano and its infamous history.
