See some of the most impressive churches in Naples on a guided walking tour, and visit sacred monuments such as the Church of Gesù Nuovo, Cappella Sansevero and Naples Cathedral in the heart of the old town. Taste a delicious pastry on Via dei Tribunali.
What to Expect
Start your walking tour of Naples on Piazza del Gesù Nuovo and see the impressive Church of Gesù Nuovo, where the unique façade hints at its former role as a palace. Look inside the building, built in 1470 for the Prince of Salerno, Roberto Sanseverino, and admire the Baroque decorations.
Next, go to the Capella Sansevero (Sansevero Chapel), where almost 30 works of art reflect the artistic heritage of Naples and the multi-faceted personality of its ingenious architect, Raimondo di Sangro, the seventh Prince of Sansevero. See miraculous works of art such as the Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sanmartino.
Then, go to Naples Cathedral, also known as the Duomo di Napoli or Cattedrale di San Gennaro in honor of the city's patron saint. Built on the site of an earlier church, dating from around 570 AD, the Gothic cathedral was commissioned by King Charles I of Anjou in the 13th century. Hear the legend of San Gennaro's blood, brought out in a vial 3 times a year. If it liquefies, then all is well: if it doesn't, then people fear for the safety of Naples!
End your tour on a sweet note and stroll over to nearby Via dei Tribunali to taste one of the local pastries of Naples.
