Explore the Roman remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum on a full-day private tour from Naples, and experience life in a town of the 1st century AD. Admire preserved baths, frescoes, mosaics, and an intact marital bed that’s more than 2,000 years old.
What to Expect
Discover the remarkable remains of the everyday Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by the sudden eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, burying both in layers of volcanic ash.
Following your transfer from Naples, arrive at the former residential coastal town of Herculaneum by the modern-day resort of Ercolano. Your driver will provide a view of the ruins from above, before you enter to explore from the ground.
Enjoy a 1-hour guided tour to see buildings still with their original timbers, and clay pots stored as they would have been at the time of the tragedy. Superbly preserved for centuries by the volcanic mud, wandering around the site is as good as being back in the 1st century AD.
One of the highlights is the grand palace of the House of the Argus and facing hotel. Marvel at the immaculately preserved frescoes and mosaics of the public bath, and a house of carbonized furniture with an intact marital bed.
Continue to Pompeii to explore one the most stunning archaeological sites on the Italian peninsula. Wander through perfect stone-paved streets to see houses, temples, and the Forum, where Roman citizens would gather. Experience the town much as it existed more than 2,000 years ago, before your transfer back to Naples.
