From Bangkok: Holy Tattoo Experience at Wat Bang Phra

1. From Bangkok: Holy Tattoo Experience at Wat Bang Phra

Wat Bang Phra is a Buddhist monastery, approximately 50 kilometers west of Bangkok. The temple is known for its daily tattoos, or Sak Yant, given by the local monks. This tradition of tattooing dates back hundreds of years. The Gao Yord Yant or 9 Spires Yant is a sacred tattoo, believed to protect and bring good luck to the bearer. This has a similar meaning to another Sak Yant design, the Hah Taew Yant. The Gao Yord Yant is usually tattooed on the nape of the neck. The 9 Spires Yant is a geometric design and represents the 9 Sacred Peaks of Mount Meru. It contains 9 symbolic images of Buddha, demonstrating how important the number 9 is in Buddhism. This experience is truly unique in Thailand as the monks are only giving a holy tattoo and blessings to very few number of people per day. During this trip, there will be an English speaking guide who will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel in downtown Bangkok with an air-conditioned vehicle. The guide will explain to you the details of ceremony along the way and make sure that everything goes smoothly.

The visit to Wat Bang Phra today was one of the highlights of this trip and represents, to me, a return to the kind of travel and adventure I enjoyed before the pandemic. I completed a tattoo “trilogy” as epic as Star Wars. Well… maybe not, but we know how that turned out! Again, the amazing variety and good character of the people met along the way here in Thailand has made these moments an even richer reward. My new friend Matthias, and my original guide from years ago, “King” Kong, took the trip with me to this famous temple to receive our blessed designs of power and protection, an ancient Thai tradition. We were glad.

Everything was perfect from start to finish! First experience with this site. The driver (very friendly) arrived at my hotel and on time. Accompanied me to the site (beautiful and so soothing!) The tattoo went very well and the driver accompanied me throughout the session, explaining what to do). And the return went very well. I recommend 1000% for those who want to do this experience:?

I had a great experience getting my tattoo done using the traditional bamboo technique. My guide was helpful explaining the process and protocols and the tattoo itself took 15-20 mins. Also, the temple complex is spectacular and worth the visit in itself!!

An Incredible experience of a lifetime for myself. My new friend Kong, yes! As in King Kong was my guide for the experience. The Master was easy going and made the journey worthwhile! Thank You!!! Frank K
