Full description

Enjoy a day out playing on the slopes of Shiga Kogen. Sample delicious Japanese or Western food for lunch and capture unforgettable pictures of the adorable snow monkeys of Jigokudani.

Meet your guide at Nagano or Yudanaka station. Board the tour bus and head straight to the mountains of Shiga Kogen, Japan and Asia's largest and highest ski resort. Upon arrival, spend 1.5 hours enjoying the snow. Whizz down the mountain on a snowscoot, snowdrive, sled, or tube. After working up an appetite, stop for lunch at a restaurant adjoining the ski slopes. Choose from a daily menu of traditional Japanese fare and Western favorites. After lunch, board the tour vehicle for the short journey out of the mountains and onto the Snow Monkey Park. As the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs, the monkeys of Jigokudani have achieved global fame and observing them going about their monkey business is a real treat.

Finally, return to the station after a snow-filled adventure that promises to leave a lasting impression.

I’m not sure who enjoyed the snow play more our grandkids, our adult kids or us! Then a tasty lunch and an enchanting walk through the snow laden forest to see the snow monkeys enjoying an onsen. All this combined with an informative, friendly, helpful guide made for a fantastic day!!

The tour covers enough for one day and still gives you time to visit something else on the way back to the city. The guide that touched us, Sylvain, was very kind and explained many more things to us outside of those pertinent to the tour. The activity in the snow is very fun and there are different levels of difficulty depending on your experience in the snow, they rent the equipment for you if you are not prepared for the cold. The food was very complete and tasted good and the visit to the macaque park was the best, we were lucky enough to see many of them and also see them inside the onsen, there were many babies for the time and they are very playful without fear to the people.

The excursion was worth the day trip from Tokyo!

The drive up to the snow monkeys was interesting as I had never been to Nagano before, the walk to the snow monkeys was a beautiful walk, just make sure you have proper shoes for the half hour trek. Lots of monkeys out on the day. Lunch was exceptional, typical Japanese bento box style, something for everyone. The snow time play was the best! The guide we had was so great, he worked hard the whole time to make sure we were having fun, even gave my son some instruction on the equipment which made it more enjoyable for him. It was a great introduction to skiing in Japan and we will be back next year!
