Top 5 things to see on Museum Island

Museum Island is worth a visit for the architecture alone, with Berlin's biggest and best exhibits shared between colossal structures that include the city's old cathedral. Here are some of the highlights among the various collections!

The Ishtar Gate

The Pergamon Museum boasts ancient monumental treasures such as the Ishtar Gate and Market Gate of Miletus. Unfortunately, the Pergamon itself is closed for renovations until 2019!

The Hildesheim Treasure

One of the largest collections of Ancient Roman silver was discovered by Prussian soldiers in Hildesheim, Germany. Dating back to 1AD, see it in all its glory at the Altes Museum.

The Bust of Nefertiti

On display at the Neues Museum is one of Ancient Egypt's most recognizable artifacts. It provides remarkable insight into the civilization's royal and artistic cultures.

The Forty Martyrs of Sabaste

Among the Bode Museum's impressive collection of Byzantine art is this haunting 10th-century ivory relief of 40 soldiers frozen to death under the persecution of Licinus I.

Iron Rolling Mill

Not a real "Eisenwalzwerk" of course, but one of Adolf Menzel's most brutally atmospheric paintings. It's exhibited alongside many German masterpieces at the Alte Nationalgalerie.

What People Are Saying About Museum Island

See parts of Berlin from a different perspective

Who doesn't enjoy a river trip? Who enjoys a serene journey through a city that presents an eclectic mosaic of historical and modern architecture? This 1 hour break away from the hustle and bustle works whatever the weather. However, in October, it can be a bit bracing for some but the best photographic opportunities are up on deck although there is the obvious attraction of a warmer environment down below. The boat was clean, comfortable and the accompanying snack and cordial most welcome. The trip commentary was given in both German and English. I think if I come again, it would be in the warmer months but the trees were displaying some autumn finery and made for a colourful backdrop to this colourful city. If I had one piece of advice it would be that ifyour hotel cannot print out the required voucher, there should be an acceptable alternate to the boat company who on this occasion were more than helpful to make sure I was able to get on board. A trip worth taking. Well done.

Wonderful, we had a table by window with a reserved table.

Food was excellent and the lights were beautiful. Not sure if we had such a wonderful seat because we booked early and paid, but it was well worth it. Highly recommend this dinner cruise.

Great trip, Great guide (Martin), Great customer service through email

Beautiful scenes, very friendly and funny guide (Martin) who made the trip much more enjoyable, great customer service through email. We have had already bought the tickets online but we missed the boat for some reasons out of our control. We sent an email. They responded very fast and booked us the trip in the next day.
