Barcelona: Gothic Quarter Walking Tour with Optional Pintxos

10. Barcelona: Gothic Quarter Walking Tour with Optional Pintxos

Discover the history of Barcelona by walking around the oldest neighborhood of the city: the Gothic Quarter. Starting at Pelayo Street, one of the main commercial streets in the city, you will start your journey to the old Barcelona. And continuing, you will visit one of the biggest squares in Spain and one of the most important places in Barcelona, Plaza de Catalunya. From here, you will walk down one of the most beautiful and famous avenues of the city, the Ramblas, and as you stroll this street, the guide will tell you how the city was founded by Emperor Augustus. Then you will arrive at the old port of the city, where you can see the remains of the old city wall as you walk through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, before arriving at Nova Square. Here, in the center of the Gothic Quarter, you'll be able to admire the Cathedral of Gothic style.  As you walk around Barcelona, your guide will be telling important facts about figures in the history of the city, such as St. Roque or Wilfredo the Hairy, and you will also discover how the current design of Catalonia's flag was developed. Next, walk around Plaza del Rei and Plaza del Pi, until you reach Plaza de Sant Jaume, the current administrative and political center of the city. I only booked this bus trip because my mother is not prepared to walk a lot, but I was wrong, this bus ride is awesome for everyone that wants to see Barcelona. You can step out of the vehicle and take another one to continue the trip. They have 2 different courses: a red one and a blue one, that will show different monuments and sights in Barcelona. In one day you can do both, but if you have more days to see everything more deeply, I'll recommend you buy these tickets!

Our guide Laura was terrific. She lives in the neighborhood and gave us just the right combination of walking, and history. Our family of 6 adults ages 29-62 all thought she was delightful. She suggested a great place for drinks and tapas. It felt like time spent with a friend in Barcelona, rather than a guide.

Great way to get a feel for the whole city. Busses came often which was good because sometimes they were too full and we couldn’t get in the first one.

Very good for know touristic points in the city. You can stop, know the place and take again the bus for a new point.

Marlon was a very friendly guide & full on great knowledge. We enjoyed ourselves.
