Freiburg: Old Town Highlights Self-guided Tour

3. Freiburg: Old Town Highlights Self-guided Tour

Stroll through the alleys of Freiburg's old town, learn interesting stories and discover little secrets. While walking along the "Bächle" (watercourses), into which you should not "dappen" (step), you can find surprising things. The landmarks and popular places of the city on your tour are the cathedral, the town hall, the historic department stores' and the Schwabentor. But the "Lange Rote" (Long Red) is also an institution. The red sausage without intestine is 35 centimetres long! It is offered daily on Münsterplatz during market hours. But under no circumstances should the "Lange Rote" be bent so that it fits into the "Weggle" (Bread rolls), only tourists do that. A real "Bobbele" (a true Freiburger) only eats his sausage whole. Colourful stalls with flowers, vegetables, meat and cheese, but also with junk and filigree things of daily life exude French lifestyle at the market. And in the vinotheque of the "Alte Wache" you can enjoy a good Baden drop of Pinot Gris to match. The tour starts at the town hall square, takes you for two to three hours on 2.5 family-friendly kilometres to the Martinstor, which is only about 400 metres away from the starting point. At the tour stops, there are entertaining tasks to solve and fun questions to answer. Who knows, for example, what ... but no, we won't tell you yet! The tour is a great way to get outside and discover new things with family, friends or on your own. It's like being shown Freiburg by a good friend. Many anecdotes will enrich your walk through the city. You can start the tour at any time and as often as you like in the browser of a smartphone. On site or even from the comfort of your sofa.

Iris is a wonderful guide. Her energy is contagious and she’s an excellent storyteller. Our train arrived late but she was very accommodating and let us catch up with the tour. We didn’t know anything about Freiburg before, but everything we learned on the tour made us fall in love with it.

The tour by Angela Berger was very entertaining and interesting. She presented her city to us with love and a lot of passion and even extended the tour for those who were particularly interested. We recommend. Again any time.
