Full description
Enjoy a day in the German Alps on a full-day excursion from Munich to the Zugspitze. You’ll travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where you’ll take a cable car up the 2962 meters to the summit of Germany’s tallest peak. The Zugspitze marks the international border between Germany and Austria. In fact there are lifts from both countries that meet at the top of the mountain. In addition restaurants and shops at the summit, there are also telescopes available. From the top you’ll have breathtaking views of the Alps which seem to stretch on forever. You’ll take a break for lunch at a small mountain hut, where you’ll also have lovely views over the peaks of the Alps and even into the Munich area. After lunch you’ll jump from Germany into Austria (no passport necessary). You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a beer in Germany’s highest beer garden! The final highlight of the tour is a round-trip ride through the mountains on a cog-wheel train.

What a terrific day! Our guide Armin picked us up right at our hotel. He gave us history and info during the drive. It was very snowy but we were still able to take the cable car up to the top. We got pix with the cross/highest point in Germany and had a coffee in one of the cafes. We really didn't mind that we couldn't see much because the snowy mountains were still fun! They closed the cable car due to winds as soon as we got to the top so we took the cog train down. Armin took us into Garmisch & Partenkirchen to shop and see the 1936 Olympic stadium.

Very enjoyable tour. our driver picked us up from our airbnb on the city on a very comfortable luxurious van. He pointed out places ofbintetest during the drive. He showed us were to buy the tickets for the cablecars and train. We had plenty of time u the Zugsitze. The cablecar station is right next to the top of the mountain. From the excellent restaurant we had a panoramic view over all the mountains and Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We were lucky and had sunshine up there still it was cold outside. The new cablecar ride was fantastic and we went down with another cablecar and then by cog train right down were we started from. Ourdriver was ready for us and took us back to Munich. Excellent tour with small number of people.

Mario was awesome! The only thing that was a bit confusing was I had done other tours and the admission was usually included and the tour included a guided tour. Likely my misunderstanding but the tour was self guided and didn't include entrance. Mario explained where to go and what time to return. very nice guy.
