Full description

Visit the hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on a full-day tour from Munich. Travel by train and in the imperial city, visit his place of birth (optional), his residence, the streets he walked, and the cafés he drank in.

Salzburg is also one of the most popular set-jetting destinations in the world for one simple reason, “The Sound of Music.” Visit sites you will remember from the silver screen such as the beautiful Mirabelle Gardens where Julie Andrews and the children were filmed singing “Do-Re-Mi.” An expert guide will take you on a train ride from Munich to Austria. You will be provided with a map and get a 1.5-hour orientation tour through the major sites.

Explore one of the finest preserved medieval old towns in Europe, crisscrossed with romantic winding shopping streets and venerable market places adorned with outstanding architectural monuments of the later baroque era.

See piazzas and fountains, the stunning Domkirche Cathedral, pleasure gardens, palaces, and churches, monasteries and catacombs, and confectionaries and patisseries. You will also go to the oldest restaurant on the continent. You will then have 3 hours to explore the city for yourself, before meeting up for the return journey.

During your free time, you can visit the breathtaking 900-year-old fortress Festung Hohensalzburg, the magnificent edifice that dominates the city's skyline, itself framed by the spectacular encirclement of mountains stretching into the horizon.

Very good day trip to Salzburg! It’s a 2hr train ride, but Lucia our guide was very entertaining and informative. She then spent around 1.5hrs showing us the main sites of the city, then we had 3hrs of free time to explore. She gave good suggestions which were all great! If you haven’t been to Salzburg, this is a great tour!

Mark our guide was super helpful and informative and make sure to get around to all 29 of us on Tuesday 8/11/2022. His tour was really good but there is loads to see but you really need 2 weeks to get it all seen. We got plenty of free time to explore and sample Salzburg delights. Make sure that you are prepared for a whole day of exploring as it is long day

We left Munich with the guide Elisabeth. She was excellent throughout the course both in following the group and in the presentation of the cities of Munich and Salzburg, monuments and historical figures, and all with humor. We particularly enjoyed the Mirabel garden with its dwarf corner and the cathedral (entrance €5). The city is breathtaking, as it is beautiful. If you buy the famous Mozart bubbles (Mozartkugeln), they cost 1.7€ each without gift wrapping and more than 2.2€ in a pack of 3/4/6. For the coffee break we opted for Café Tomaselli next to the cathedral (4.6€ for a dessert, 5€ for a coffee). We recommend this getaway. We did not see the weather pass and yet it was raining quite heavily most of the day. A word of advice if you are going in autumn or winter like us: bring warm clothes (mountain type).
