Full description

Take a trip down the Romantic Road, a famous 220 mile route linking some of Bavaria's most exquisite architectural gems on a guided tour from Munich. Discover the natural beauty of the region, and the charming town of Rothenburg.

After departure from Munich, travel first to Harburg which is one of the oldest and best-preserved castle complexes in Germany. This perfectly situated castle with its surrounding village retains the feel of the middle ages. Be enchanted by its historic flair and delve deep into its history. After visiting the castle, and pausing for coffee, you will drive on through the wondrous scenery of the Nördlinger Ries – the giant depression left by an ancient meteor in the Swabian landscape.

Travelling via Dinkelsbühl, with its towers and spires, you will reach Rothenburg, a perfectly restored mediaeval town. Take some free time here for extensive exploration. Wander through the beautiful streets and alleyways, which are full of the charm of past times. Your return to Munich will take you through the largest hops-growing region in the world, the Hallertau. I really enjoyed this trip. The bus location was easy to find and the ride to our destination was comfortable. Bathroom and beverages were on board, albeit the beverages were a nominal fee which included beer! The tour guide was a little slow in speaking English but that's to be expected. She did an excellent job explaining things along our route and in giving suggestions on where to visit and eat once in town. I have to say Rothenburg ob der Tauber was absolutely beautiful. Every way you looked was like something you would see on a postcard. I highly recommend taking the trip!

The sites visited are beautiful. We went on a Sunday and there was nothing open apart from some restaurants and museums. All shops were closed. I wish I would have known, I would most likely have gone anyway but we were a little disappointed as we were hoping to visit some of the shops. On the other hand, as the place was almost empty, the photographs look like postcards. The guide was helpful too.
