Our accredited, English-speaking guide will take you on a tour of the Dachau Memorial, the site of one of Nazi Germany’s first concentration camps. This is a 5-hour private excursion to an important center of remembrance, contemplation and learning.
What to Expect
In the 1960s a memorial was established at the site of the former Dachau concentration camp outside Munich. Today it is one of the most important centers of remembrance and learning in Germany. On this 5-hour visit to the memorial our accredited, English-speaking guide will take you on a journey that you’re not likely to forget.
In March 1933 the construction of the one of Germany’s first concentration camps was ordered by Heinrich Himmler. The site was the small town of Dachau, not far from Munich. The camp’s first 5,000 prisoners were political enemies of the Nazi regime.
For the next several years other ethnic, racial, political and social enemies of the Nazis were imprisoned at Dachau. It became the only concentration camp that was active for the entire Third Reich period (1933-1945). By the time the camp was liberated in April 1945, more than 200,000 prisoners from over 30 countries had been imprisoned there.
Among the important features of Dachau that you’ll visit during the tour are the Nandor Gild Monument, the religious memorials and the Memorial to the “Unknown Prisoner”. Your guide will show you where the prisons arrived, the administration building and the former SS training camp as well.
