Full description

Experience the charm of Bavaria's fairytale landscape and King Ludwig II's entrancing castles on a day trip from Munich. Visit Linderhof, Neuschwanstein, and Hohenschwangau at your own pace.

Depart from Munich on an air-conditioned bus for a scenic drive towards Southern Bavaria. Your first stop is Linderhof. Be charmed by the rococo-inspired palace and walk its romantic gardens. Take a guided tour at your own expense to get to know the king's retreat better.

From Linderhof, make a stop at the quaint town of Oberammergau if time permits. Take photos of the town's frescos or go shopping. Then, recharge in Schwangau for lunch (not included in the cost of the tour).

Arrive at the stunning Neuschwanstein Castle and enjoy 4 hours to explore (entry tickets not included). Have the option to walk 40 minutes, take the bus, or ride a horse-drawn carriage up to the castle.

Wander through forest trails and arrive at Neuschwanstein to see its opulence up close. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere that inspired the Grimm Brothers' stories and gaze over the surrounding scenic landscape at various viewpoints.

Make your way towards Hohenschwangau Castle, King Ludwig II's childhood home to be impressed by its fortifying architecture. Choose to have guided tours of either castle (not included) during your time spent at the castle grounds.

Conclude your trip with a relaxing drive back to Munich.

We had a great day. Linderhof was our favorite even though Neuschwanstein is much better known. The guide made sure we had ample rest stops and offered the right balance of commentary and quiet time. We took the bus up part of the hill at Neuschwanstein, but the walk was still very strenuous. If you're not an athlete, plan on doubling the amount of time the tour guide tells you to allow for the hike to the castle. Fortunately, the view from the bridge was worth the effort. If we had to do it over, we would have skipped lunch at the nice restaurant and headed straight for the castle. We ended up with just enough time to through the castle and back to the bus.

Doing this tour was the best decision! The time in each castle is good enough to do the inside tour and take pictures outside. We enjoyed our ride and everything we learned. Jackeline our tour guide gave us the best tips to take advantage of the day. Everything she said filled the gaps of the background history of Ludwig II, as the tour guides in each castle mainly focused on the castle history and architecture.

Even on the bus, I was able to listen to the stories from the guide (English and German), which was a lot of fun. It was a pity that the planned restaurant was full and I could not sit down, but other than that, it was very good as planned and on time.
