Overview
The Munich Residence documents over 400 years of the Wittelsbacher Family history. A lot of important events took place here, and also many funny stories regarding its inhabitants!
What to Expect
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Residence was expanded from a medieval castle to one of the most magnificent palace complexes in Europe.

The city palace was the primary residence of the Wittelsbacher until 1919, home to the Dukes, Electors and Kings of Bavaria, and also of Charles VII, Holy Roman Emperor. German and French emperors, foreign kings, gifted artists, and later important politicians came here to visit.

The Residence was completely destroyed during the Second World War and all the people of Munich came together after the war to rebuild it. The splendor of one of the most important palaces of its time can again be admired. Today, the museum features approximately 140 rooms with art and architecture spanning four centuries and an impressive treasure chamber.
