Full description

After meeting your guide in Marienplatz, take an S-bahn train to Dachau Bahnhof and then a short bus ride to the memorial site.

On the way, learn about the rise of the Nazi Party throughout the 1920s up to Adolf Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor in 1933. Hear about the introduction of concentration camps and the role Dachau played as a model for other camps. Start a guided tour of all the areas and buildings open to the public. Visit the SS training facility, the bathhouse, and the main gate with the infamous ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ slogan. See the perimeter fence, several religious memorials, and the bunker, which acted as a prison within the camp. Your guide will explain the methods of torture and punishments used in the camp, and the various medical experiments carried out on prisoners. Hear what daily life was like for prisoners and their guards. Learn about Georg Elser, the man who almost killed Hitler and was executed at Dachau. Visit the former gas chamber and crematorium. Watch a short color film of Dachau in the hours following its liberation, and hear about what happened afterwards.

You will then walk back to the visitor center and start the return journey back to Munich.

This was a very humbling experience to say the least. We were there November 27th, 2021. Our guide, Franz Schega was very passionate with his knowledge and made this tour incredible. It's not a tour where you're laughing and carrying on, it's very educational, historical and and eye opener. Lest we forget..... Definitely a time in history that is so important to where we are now. Thanks Franz for making this memorable and still be able to have some jokes on the way back to town.

Matt has been an incredible guide! Very nice to the group, he made it a very pleasant tour on the tour. He is very interested in World War II, which makes him fascinating to listen to, very predisposed to asking questions that he answered with kindness. I recommend it if you want to go to the Dachau concentration camp, it's worth it. Thanks Matt :)

It was an amazing experience. We had the best guide. His name is James and he’s really knowledgeable of all information regarding the tour. He was really nice, helpful and accommodating. The way he explains everything was just great! The tour is hard to process at times and can be touching too but definitely an experience you would like to have. 10/10 for me.
