Full description
This full-day tour from Munich takes you to Hitler’s mountain retreat, located in the mountains above Berchtesgaden. Presented to him in 1939 as a 50th birthday present, the mountain chalet took 13 months to complete, and includes an elevator that was bored through a tunnel in the rocks to reach the entrance. You will depart from Munich and drive along some of the most scenic roads in the German Alps. On arrival, a special bus will take you up to the Eagle´s Nest entrance area, where you will ride the elevator to the mountain peak, and into Eagle´s Nest itself. Look at beautiful views over the Alps, with free time on your own to explore. The lower rooms can be visited with an English-speaking guide, and offer views of the building's past through plate-glass windows. Graffiti left by Allied troops is clearly visible in the surrounding woodwork. A large fireplace in the restaurant shows severe damage along its lower edges, where soldiers have smashed off small shards of marble as souvenirs. Hitler's small study is now used as a store room for the cafeteria. After the tour, you will get more free time to go to the NS-Documentation-Center in Berchtesgaden, before the drive back to Munich.

Our tour guide, Mario, was great. He was prompt for pickup and engaged in informational discussion during the trip to Berchtesgaden. He gave us some additional insight into the property that The Eagles Nest lies on, as well. This was a great experience and I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Could not have been better!

From the first moment when we were picked up at our hotel at 08:45 sharp, we felt that this is going to be a good day. The trip was operated by and with Armin as our guide we did not have a dull moment the whole day. With perfect logistics and clear and useful information from Armin, we were guided through all the attractions in a very smooth and efficient way. The weather was shifting that day with low clouds and showers, but fortunately when went to the top it was all clear and we could enjoy the fantastic view from this magnificent place. Armin also took us to a restaurant for lunch which would never have found if travelling by ourselves. - and what a nice place with great food, genuine Bavarian Alp atmosphere and fantastic view! I highly recommend this trip!

Our tour Guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the sites we are going to tour and answered our questions about the cultures and different countries we would see. We had the best time while visiting and will defiantly be recommending these tours to all of our friends. We were able to see so much in the time that we had which was awesome. The Streusel was amazing! The Waltz’s (Peggy and Scott)
