Discover one of Bavaria's most scenic landscapes on this tour from Munich by train and van. Marvel at the stature and delicate architecture of Neuschwanstein Castle standing proud atop a hill and surrounded by forested mountains. See the sprawling valley from the foot of the castle walls and learn about its history from your guide along a walking tour of the grounds. Located 2 hours from Munich, the enchanting old-world town of Füssen lies in the foothills of the Alps, framed by one of the most breathtaking natural settings in the world. Towering far above the village, seemingly sculpted out of the very mountains that rise magnificently to the heavens, is a sight made from the stuff of dreams: the fabulous and ethereal Neuschwanstein Castle. This glorious folly was built in the 19th-Century by the famed "mad" King Ludwig II, a man intoxicated by mythology and who himself became a legend. The shimmering white towers of the castle among the clouds are instantly recognizable to many who haven’t ever heard the name Neuschwanstein. It is the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle and is famous the world over as the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang castle. To visit it is to step inside a fairy tale. On this full-day tour from Munich, your guide will take you by train or bus and accompany you uphill to the castle’s lofty perch, where it sits gleaming above a spectacular panorama of mountains, lakes, and valleys. It’s not just about the castle – it’s also about its wonderful location. You will go to the best vantage points and explore the lake. If time and weather permits, you can even enjoy a swim. Get postcard-perfect views of the equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle, the waterfall gorge, and the stunning Marienbrücke Bridge, suspended high above it all. While you are marveling at the beauty, your guide will tell you the engaging story of King Ludwig’s renowned and tragic reign, his turbulent times, and of the obsession that drove him to build his fantasy castle in the mountains that ultimately destroyed him. If you choose to purchase a ticket on the day, skip the long lines for the separate internal tour of the king’s private chambers by a specialist castle guide. The tour is the most practical way to admire this amazing fantasy world.

Munich: Third Reich & WWII Tour Walking Tour

4. Munich: Third Reich & WWII Tour Walking Tour

Take a 2-hour walking tour of Munich to discover one of the darkest moments in the city’s history, learning of the birth of Nazism, the rise of Hitler, and the infamous Third Reich. In 1919, Germany was emerging from World War I as a defeated and humiliated nation, with Munich in the grips of hyperinflation and Bavaria dominated by revolution and assassination. Out of this fertile soil of chaos rose the Nazi movement, and one of history’s most powerful dictators, Adolf Hitler. Follow the inception of Nazism, from the first mass meeting at the Hofbräuhaus to the failed attempt to seize power at the Feldherrnhalle. You will go to the site of party rallies at Königsplatz, and stop in the Hofgarten to talk about The White Rose Resistance Movement. The tour covers all the important facts and sites that played a role in the origin of this dark chapter, which ended with the beautiful city of Munich in ruins and the second world war cutting deep wounds across Deutschland.

Munich: Kunsthalle Entrance Ticket to "The Myth of Spain"

5. Munich: Kunsthalle Entrance Ticket to "The Myth of Spain"

Visit the Kunsthalle Munich, one of Germany’s leading exhibition venues with this entry ticket. Enjoy state-of-the-art museum technology in an exhibition space that creates a worthy stage for all art forms. The Kunsthalle München presents the first comprehensive exhibition of Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga in Germany, featuring some ninety works. Zuloaga shaped the image of Spain abroad like almost no other artist around 1900: toreros and spirited flamenco dancers; beggars, little people, and witches invoking the artistic legacy of Diego Velázquez and Francisco de Goya; ascetics and penitents in vast landscapes withering under the blazing sun; the simple life of the rural population. In the wake of industrialization and Spain’s increasing orientation towards European Modernism, Zuloaga strove to preserve the “Spanish soul” with such scenes, which gained him international success. In nine thematic chapters the exhibition explores Zuloaga’s artistic career and locates him within the historico-cultural context of his time, including his close ties with the writers of the so-called Generation of ’98, the question of Spain’s self-image and its image as a foreign country within Europe, as well as Zuloaga’s connections to the Paris avant-garde. Furthermore, his reception specifically in Germany is addressed, which in return is linked to Zuloaga’s complex relationship with the Francoist administration and his instrumentalization by the fascist regime. The show departs from the established yet too narrowly considered classification of Zuloaga as a painter of melancholic, gloomy, “black” Spain—in contrast to, for example, Joaquín Sorolla (1863–1923) as a representative of the cheerful, folkloristic, “white” side. Zuloaga’s oeuvre is thus re-examined in all its complexity. With this project, the Kunsthalle continues its Spanish-themed exhibitions like The Spanish Golden Age and Joaquín Sorolla, realized in 2016/17. The Myth of Spain. Ignacio Zuloaga (1870–1945) is an exhibition by Kunsthalle München, in collaboration with Bucerius Kunst Forum, Hamburg. The exhibition will be on view there from February 17 to May 26, 2024..

We live in Munich and have visited a couple of places on the tour before , but the guide has given a new light on these by drawing you into the rich history. Highly recommended for both tourists and locals !
