What to Expect
Be prepared to experience the positive side of life in Asia’s largest slum on a private 3-hour of Mumbai's Dharavi district. This tour aims to break the negative stereotype associated with the slum. Home to nearly 1 million residents, Dharavi is a place that’s alive with small scale industry and the spirit of community.
You’ll learn why Dharavi is the heart of small scale industry in Mumbai, as you observe a wide range of activities such as recycling, pottery making, embroidery, soap making, and leather tanning. Most of these business activities involve innovative methods and are carried out in very confined spaces.
As you pass through the residential spaces, you’ll feel the sense of community and spirit that exist in the slum. People coming from all parts of India live in Dharavi, and you can see this diversity in the temples, mosques, and churches that stand side by side. A tour through Dharavi's narrow alleys is an adventure that will leave you with an enlightened sense of the purpose and determination that exist here.
