What People Are Saying About Mumbai

A great chance to look behind the scenes of Mumbai City

The tour was very well organised with a fluently speaking young guide living in Dharavi. He provided a lot of information on a broad variety of inhabitants, their jobs, daily routines, stories and migration backgrounds. We were talking about tough challenges that the inhabitants are facing every day but also about many positive aspects like recycling, cultural richness and strong identity. Pick-up from hotel worked like a charm. I called the organiser ahead to double check the confirmation. He was reachable on phone and provided the right information which gave me good confidence. As a city planner this was an great opportunity. Getting insights into the inner workings of India's largest city and an alternative perspective on development projects. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Stunning sculptures in a beautiful setting

Its hard to believe that these majestic sculptures were made 100s of years ago without benefit of the tools we have today, and that they have survived so well for such a long period of time. Our guide was Nitin, the local guide who lives on the island, and he was terrific. He explained all the meanings of the sculptures and their relative positions to each other and to the rising sun, and he clearly loves this island. He also took us through to see the simple local temple used by the villagers.

Very good experience The meeting point before departure for the trip should be better defined.

A piece of the human puzzle on a lush, remote island; beautiful, rare!

I was picked up, escorted & dropped off at my hotel by Mr. Naren, who spoke English, was kind, knowledgeable & courteous. The tour includes passenger ferry to & from the island (about 1 hr each way), & gave me a great view of the geographic area, trade activity & energy sectors in the region. The "ferries" are very basic & those prone to motion sickness may reconsider. For Westerners, leave expectations on safety, cleanliness and comfort behind! My guide Mr. Nitin met us at Elephanta Island. He knew the area well, spoke fluent English, was mindful of my needs & took many pictures for me. The island is tropical; paths were slippery so good treads are a must. The climb to the caves is gradual but may be strenuous for some. Bring Rupees for cave entry & savvy merchants - safest to deal in Rupees! The caves & history are mind blowing - a testament to the tenacity & skill of past generations, & humbling reminder of our human origins. I was well looked after; truly a unique experience!

Was highly interesting and informative - guide was island local.

I had an excellent day from the boat ride to the island, the trek up the hill to see the caves and finally a light and delicious meal at the end of the stairways on the way back. The sun was setting over Mumbai as I travelled back to the Gateway of India by boat which made a lovely ending. The guide was personable and very knowledgeable about the history of the island, the caves, and the local people and village. He was a resident of the island. The tour company was very attentive to my needs for the day. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to understand India's history and religions. Warning: the walk up the hill is very strenuous.
