The green heart of Bangkok will surprise each visitor because of its proximity to the bustling life that goes around in the capital. Extremely well-kept and preserved by those that calls this artificial island ‘home.’
What to Expect
Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive towards Bang Krachao, one of the most green places in Bangkok and also known as the "Green Lungs of Bangkok". Without traffic, one reaches this oasis in just under 30 minutes.
Upon arrival at the island, explore the region from north to south, east to west. This place is a surprisingly well-maintained place as the ongoing endeavor to keep Bang Krachao as it is right now are actively supported by the Royal Family of Thailand. Outside of its ecological importance, many of the Mon settlers have taken it upon themselves to start small farms and cultivate fruits and vegetables, using the many canals as irrigation sources.
The best way to get up and close with the community and farming methods is by bicycle and walking. Narrow paths, concrete slabs, built on stilts and roads that do not bear the sometimes massive traffic jams inside the modern part of Bangkok, meander through the island and around every corner a new sight pops up that hasn’t been fully explored. Lunch is included at a local restaurant.
During this full day explore venues such as the Soi Nakorn Kurn Kun Royal Park (a great place to feed the many fish that inhabit these waters), the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market (devoid of mass tourism) and the Bang Nam Puang Nok Temple .One may see local activities over the weekend, yet this only will add charm to the experience.
The day will end at a museum dedicated to Fighting Fish species and a botanical garden where one gets the chance to take a small break. Again, during the weekends, these places are growing in popularity with the locals that seek out the serene scenery with lots of places to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Your whole trip is filled with local surprises, a plethora of flora and fauna, and magnificent views over the Chao Phraya River with Bangkok’s skyline clearly visible in the background. Head back to your hotel in the late afternoon and in time to make it back to your hotel at around 18:00.
