It was cloudy during the day, so I had almost given up on seeing the stars, even though I had come all the way from Japan, but late at night, the sky was filled with stars. Our guide Alan and the female guide who was our driver gave very easy-to-understand explanations, and I was able to enjoy the Southern Hemisphere starry sky, which I was seeing for the first time, with even more interest. We used a laser point to explain the planets, stars, and nebulae to the naked eye, and we also used three telescopes to see the Orion belt and new stars. Jupiter was particularly beautiful, as it could be seen clearly even to the moon through the large telescope in the dome. The stars around Lake Tekapo are not visible clearly due to the lights from hotels and cars. I think it's better to join a tour that takes you to the top of the mountain.

If you love the stars or stargazing then this is a must. We managed to get on the mt John observatory tour which was a fantastic viewing spot for seeing the stars and even managed to see mercury through a telescope and some other very cool groups of stars.
