Full description
The starting point of the trekking route is along the dirt road that runs from Provenzana to the summit craters of the volcano. The first stop will allow you to see the ruins of the Hotel delle Betulle, the only visible structure from those destroyed by the lava flow of October 2002. Take your time studying the varying volcanic forms as you follow the route. Hear about how they are related to the series of eruptions on the northern side of Etna, particularly the flank eruptions in 1911 and 1923. The later occurrence threatened the city of Linguaglossa. After visiting the particular volcanic structures, called hornitos (small oven in Spanish), go up along the Bottoniera (cinder cones) of the 2002 eruption. Reach the maximum height of 2,100 meters and stand at the edge of the craters. Descend Mount Etna through a sandy channel to arrive back at the starting point.

Educational excursion in the evocative landscape of Etna, accompanied by an expert guide. The 3-hour route does not present particular difficulties and is also suitable for those like me who are not familiar with the mountains, but it is still tiring, especially because of the heat and the sun. Trekking shoes are essential (the ground is slippery in some places), sunglasses and sun protection, and the poles provided on site are useful.

Nice walk among the Etna craters of the 2002 eruption. An easy climb but still with an “alpine” flavor, the descent into the sand is also fun! Our guide was Daniele, very helpful and well prepared, he answered all our questions with precision and patience! Really great experience not to be missed, we were also lucky enough to be able to admire some volcanic explosions (obviously from a distance and always in safety!)

Great experience under the guidance of Vincenzo. He told us many interesting anecdotes about the 2002 eruption, complete with a view of the summit craters. The route is not too long but it was interesting to visit the whole district. Surely the discourse of the eruptions is preferred more as the main part of the route. Vincenzo was very willing to listen to the various questions and needs of each one.
