The trip starts super early and does get slippery 20 min before reaching the top, so better have good hiking shoes and warm clothing aswell. You do have to have a good fitness, as it does get exhausting if you usually don’t hike. There were a couple of visitors that struggled a bit.

I was picked up at night by our driver Pasek, along with other guests, who took us safely to the starting point of the hike. Once there, we were handed over to our hiking guide. There were biscuits, coffee and tea, as well as the possibility to use sanitary facilities. We were given headlamps and a stick, and then we set off to the summit with our cheerful guide. He was very attentive and kept asking about our well-being and pointing out difficult/slippery parts of the hike so that we all got there safely. When we arrived at the summit, we saw a great sunrise and were served breakfast by our guide. There was a short look into the crater before we started the descent. At the bottom we were handed back to our driver from the morning and brought home safely.

The Mount Batur tour was a once in a lifetime experience. The tour below the volcano started around 4 a.m. after we got coffee/tea and biscuits. The ascent takes a good 1 1/2 hours and is really demanding. If you book this tour, you should be good on foot. But the effort is totally worth it, because the view is breathtaking. Our guide then prepared a delicious breakfast for us and then after a good 1 1/2 hours we went downhill again. Great experience! :) Unfortunately, our guide didn't talk to us and just walked around in front of us in the morning. That was a pity.
