Devon House Heritage Tour with Ice-Cream from Montego Bay

7. Devon House Heritage Tour with Ice-Cream from Montego Bay

One of Kingston's highly visited historical landmarks, The Devon House Mansion is the architectural dream of Jamaica’s first black millionaire George Stiebel. Stiebel was among three wealthy Jamaicans who constructed elaborate homes during the late 19th century at the corner of Trafalgar Road and Hope Road, which fittingly became known as the Millionaires Corner. Although the other homes were eventually demolished to make way for modern development ventures, Stiebel’s legacy lives on within the beautifully maintained Devon House - a national monument declared in 1990 by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. Many would be surprised, however, to learn that the early history of Devon House dates back to the mid-seventeenth century when Britain captured Jamaica from Spain. Today, one can still find this piece of Jamaica's history in the heart of Kingston with its welcoming ornate fountains, and palm trees on the front lawn. The guided tours inside the 2 story property allow each guest to peruse the louvred balconies, Venetian crystal chandeliers, silk wall hangings and period reproductions of its time, and at the end of the Mansion tour, each guest receives a sweet surprise!

What people are saying about Montego Bay

Highly recommend! We booked the Negril Sunset tour as a thank you to 52 of our guests who traveled to Montego Bay with us to celebrate our first year anniversary. The price per person was reasonable but because of the amount of people in our group, the total was a large sum and we had many questions. After calling getyourguide and speaking with the helpful rep, we booked online about 5 weeks before our arrival. The day before the excursion 4 of our guests decided not to go so we called to cancel their tickets and, true to the getyourguide site, we received a full refund for their tickets. The local the tour operator, Jamaica Customized Vacation & Tours, was fantastic. I received a confirmation text 2 days before the excursion and we worked out the final details. Our large group required 2 coaster buses and both arrived on time. The drivers were wonderful--engaging, funny, kind and they helped to make the trip to Negril the fun and memorable excursion we hoped for. We'd do it all again!

We expected the driver who picks us up at the Great House stays with us and goes through with us. This was not the case, he was really only the driver and at the Great House was another 25 dollar entry due. The tour was then conducted by a tour guide of the house. Therefore, the price was only too expensive for the drive there, as it is better to take a taxi at the port and go there. The tour in the Great House itself was great and highly recommended, but you do not need to book this here

Fun way to see Negril

Our driver Lorenzo was great! We couldn't ask for a better driver! He was very accommodating to our needs and attentive to our group. The name should just say that they provide you with a driver as it is not a "tour." Basically they take you to the different places and allow you to explore! We enjoyed Margaritaville and the beach~ Rick's was very crowded, but we were able to jump off the cliff! We left Rick's early, as it was not our scene...but we still had an overall good time.

Awesome tour and tour guide

This was a tour that was very much worth the money. We had a great time at Rick’s and Margaritaville. Our tour guide Kevin made the tour even more awesome. He was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us details about the history about the country and the different parishes. He made sure to point out key things as we made the drive from Montego Bay to Negril. He answered all of our questions and just made the tour even better.

excellent trio. Mark was fantastic! very great guide
