Full description

Discover one of the world's first UNESCO World Heritage Sites with a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel abbey. Explore the site with a self-guided tour aided by an information booklet and learn the fascinating history of the site entirely at your own pace.

The worship of Saint Michel was introduced on the holy mount in 708 and it became one of the most important places of medieval pilgrimage. Benedictine Monks began building an abbey here in the 10th century.   The abbey has withstood the assaults of man, time, and the elements. The heroic resistance of the mount to English attacks during the Hundred Years’ War (14th and 15th centuries) made it a symbol of French national identity.

Monks left the abbey in 1790 and it was listed as a historic monument in 1874. The whole site has been returned to its former glory thanks to ongoing restoration work.

Great wonderful visit! Annoyingly, on the page referred to booking a voucher (free) for minors, it was not possible to find how to make this free reservation. And that although I understand French tolerably well. It was also announced on site that European students up to the age of 25 would not have to pay anything. This was not clear from the booking documents at getyourguide. So I have now paid 3 times to enter (for me and my two daughters - 17 and 21) when I should have only paid 1 time. The websites are often - also in this case - incomplete. Here it may be partly that the linked page is responsible for it. For me, a good service would have been if you could have booked the reservations for the free visitors on just one page. And that it would have been said in no uncertain terms that students from the EU also have free entry.

An amazing and iconic old abbey. My prepaid ticket was great. (I had two concerns -neither of which is under the control of Get Your Guide. As I have some issues with depth perception, I had to be super-careful of all the steps (quite terrifying at times). And I couldn’t get the audio guide to work for all locations.) But a must-see monument, and the pre-paid ticket was very convenient.

The Mont St Michel is a really worth seeing destination! I have been there several times and have been very impressed each time. Entry is free for children under 18, but they require an additional ticket, bookable at abbaye St Michel. It makes a lot of sense to come early in the morning, we were there at 9:30am, then it's not quite as crowded in the season. The entrance ticket gives you much faster access to the abbey.
