What People Are Saying About Monreale
Getting to and from Monreale can be a hussle, and knowing exactly which times you can visit the Norman Palace might be blurry - so this is a way around it. Essentially not a tour but a driver and car taking you to the places you need to be.
The driver, Francesco, phoned our hotel the night before the tour to delay the start time by 15 minutes and arrived bang on time. We traveled in a minibus to the Norman Palace and were dropped off to go in by ourselves. The audio guide was excellent and was well worth doing, the receptionist at the desk requires you to leave some sort of picture i.d. when you pick up the audio guides so remember to take your driving license with you. The highlight of the palace was the Capella Palatina, exquisite! We then found the driver again and proceeded to the Cathedral on foot. There is a charge to see the crypt and the treasures and visit the Royal Tombs, but it's worth it. We didn't climb the steps to the roof but apparently the view is fantastic. Having walked back to the minibus we then traveled to Monreale and had an hour there to see the Cathedral, buy ice creams, sit in the square or walk round a bit. Francesco met us and we returned to Palermo. A most enjoyable tour.
