What people are saying about Monchique
We went on this tour with a group of 4 & one additional girl joined our van. We were picked up at 230, however the wine drinking/ Winery tour didn’t start until 430. We did get to have some wonderful information passed to us about the history of Portugal and we were able to see the last standing castle. Our guide Juao was great, very engaging and funny! We stopped off at the castle & were able to explore for an hour. From there we made our way to the winery. We stopped off at PAXA wines, the tasting room in the Winery was beautiful, and the host, Nidia was wonderful. The wine was very delicious of course! Overall it was a great day out. Again, the Portuguese hospitality was amazing! Juao dropped us off at our dinner reservation instead of our original pick up spot & gave us good recommendations for restaurants. Personally I wish we had booked the longer tour to go to several wineries. But overall was a great day out!
Excellent day out. Really recommend anybody interested in this to do it. João (tour guide) was just amazing. Collected us outside our Airbnb dropped us back to the door, gave us loads of facts and history of the area. Stopped in Silves and were given complimentary port and a brief history of the area. After this we were told about how corks were made and the process of making them. We got to see the process of making wine in the wineyard and even got to speak to one of the owners. We were given a sample of 3 of the wines and then given a glass of our top preference. A platter was also provided. This was an excellent way to tour the Algarve area. Tour takes about 4 hours and was not rushed.
Joao our host was fantastic. We got picked up from our hotel and he transported us to the magnificent town of Silves explaining Portuguese history on our journey. We stopped off at the castle with amazing photo opportunities. We then made our way to the vineyard of Paxa, tasted the grapes, saw the wine making process, enjoyed the scenery before trying some of the wines they had to offer. (A group of IRISH so we maybe tried more than we were allowed). We then got transported back to our accommodation. A speculator day out in Portugal.
From the minute Joao picked us up till he dropped us off, we felt like we were A listers! We started with the cork trees, them went to Silves and took a tour of the castle, then made our way to the vineyard for the wine tour. The vineyard is breathtaking and Joao's knowledge of the process and the history was amazing. I truly didn't appreciate what went into making wine until this tour and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.
Our guide, António, was very knowledgeable and took his time with the trip, never rushing us. We were lucky because we were the only people, so we were able to alter the schedule because of the weather. Don’t forget to bring an empty water bottle to fill up at Monchique!
