Private "Baroque" tour of Ragusa - Modica - Noto
in English, Spanish, and Italian.
Departure at 8:30 AM from Catania, with prior pickup from your hotel.
If the hotel is located in a restricted traffic area, we will meet at the nearest meeting point.
Our first destination is Ibla, the historic center of Ragusa.
We will visit the Benedictine nuns' Monastery and the splendid Cathedral of St. George, whose neoclassical Baroque style with a tower facade incorporating the bell tower recalls Northern European architecture.
Inside the Cathedral, you'll find precious paintings depicting Gospel events and the life of St. George.
Next, we'll take a short walk in the "Ibleo Garden" to admire the local flora before heading to Modica, an ancient village destroyed by the earthquake of 1693 and rebuilt with late Baroque architecture.
The town, with its layers of houses rising up with bell towers, is a "theater of pink stones."
We will visit the Church of St. Peter, with statues of the Twelve Apostles along the staircase, and the Cathedral of St. George, a stunning wonder with a grand staircase.
Enjoy a complimentary tasting of Modica chocolate followed by a break to savor local street food.
We will then continue our journey to the town of Noto, the undisputed capital of Baroque.
You will admire the imposing Palazzo dei Frati Francescani, the Benedictine Friars' Palace, the Cathedral of S. Nicola, and Palazzo Ducezio. We'll also visit what is considered the finest example of Sicilian Baroque: Palazzo Nicolaci.
After completing the visit to Noto, we will return to Catania.
The tour lasts approximately 9 hours.
The cost for 1 to 4 people is €320.
For tourists picked up from hotels in Taormina, an extra charge of €200 will apply.
