The MMIPO, or Museu da Misericórdia do Porto, is located in the historic city center on the Rua das Flores. It is housed in a building that was the head office of the institution from the mid-16th century until 2013. Over the years, the building has undergone a number of modifications, the last of which was its adaptation for museum facilities. One of the aims of the MMIPO is to inform people about the history of the Misericórdia do Porto and its institutional purpose. In addition, through its artistic collections it reflects the memory and the identity of the organization and projects it into the future. Visiting the museum is also an opportunity to better understand the past and the future of this part of Porto. The site includes the Misericórdia Church and the Gallery of Benefactors, an example of iron and glass architecture. Built in the 16th century, the church underwent significant modification in the 18th century.
