Full description

The Museo Picasso Málaga was created in response to the artist's desire for his work to be exhibited in the city of his birth in 1881. Its realization is thanks to the combined efforts of the artist´s daughter-in-law and grandson, whose donations provide the body of the art collection, and Junta de Andalucía, who arranged an ambitious project devoted to the artist. Located in the Palacio de Buenavista, declared a National Monument in 1939, the Museo Picasso Málaga opened in the heart of Málaga in 2003. The building boasts a harmonic mix of Renaissance and Mudéjar elements and serene contemporary lines. Phoenician, Roman, and Arabic ruins can be found on the underground floor. This ticket provides access to the permanent collection containing examples of Picasso's revolutionary innovations. See paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and graphic work, from his first academic studies to his personal Neoclassical perspective.

Admire Picasso's overlapping Cubist forms, his experiments in ceramics, his interpretations of the Old Masters, and his last paintings from the 1970s. Break for a snack in the garden Café of the Palacio de Buenavista, a perfect place to end your visit with an appetizer, lunch, or a drink.

Not sure that Picasso would ever have wanted anyone to consume as many of his paintings and sculptures in one afternoon as this museum allows. It is simply overwhelming. At the same time it is fantastic. The master is on display like you have never experience. It really requires more than one day to absorb but it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Nice museum, pretty quick to go through though a bit crowded. The only annoying thing was the security was really weird. I had a small backpack that I have not had issues at any other museum or historic place in several weeks in Spain and they originally wanted me to put it away. I explained I had medication and water I needed to keep with me and they eventually let me keep it but I’m not sure why they were so strict out of the many museums and sites across Spain.

A great exhibition of Picasso's works. Tickets bought online 1h before the entrance. I recommend a visit early in the morning when there are no crowds yet. The additional exhibition (06.2022) of Paula Rego's works gives additional impressions and an injection of art by the big "SZ" :). Traditionally, you can buy something as a souvenir in the shop at the end of your visit. I recommend. On Sundays, after 2 p.m., admission is free, but we gave up due to a long queue ... it's worth paying for the ticket and visiting it for a week.
