Beijing: The Forbidden City or Tiananmen Square Entry Ticket

The Forbidden City (Gùgōng), located at the centre of Beijing, was the main palace of Imperial China for five centuries, until the early 20th century. It today houses the Palace Museum, one of China's largest national museums, with an extensive collection based on the former imperial collection. This is truly the spot to appreciate the might and grandeur of the Imperial Chinese court during the height of its power in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Constructed between 1406 and 1420 during the reign of Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty, the Forbidden City was home to 24 emperors and their families and acted as the ceremonial and political center of ancient Chinese government throughout 500 years. After the Last Emperor of China left the palace, it later became a museum open to the public in 1925. Since then, the Forbidden City is no longer ‘forbidden’, and now ordinary people are able to take a virtual trip in time to see the secrets and luxury of imperial life.

We booked the private tour option with Mutianyu Great Wall, Lunch, Sacred Way and Ming Tombs. Our tour guide Sherry and Driver Xing picked us up at our hotel early in the morning to avoid the crowds, traffic and heat. Sherry and Xing took great care of us during the day, providing us also with cool drinks and a fantastic lunch at a Chinese farmhouse restaurant. We felt very safe and well taken care of, with Xing driving us to the different locations. We completed our day back in Beijing with a visit to the Olympic Stadium and grounds, followed by an acrobatics show (which was strongly recommended by Sherry and one of the many highlights of the day). Sherry is very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions, providing us also with useful tips and hints for our stay in China. We can wholeheartedly recommend this tour and Sherry & Xing as tour guides. We would definitely book again. The private tour allows for more flexibility when visiting the different locations.

We had the most amazing day with our guide Cindy. Cindy had the answers to all of our questions and the tour was very informative, but also got time to explore for ourselves. Recommend including the tombs and sacred road and making it a full day of exploring these incredible sites. Also ask about the private tea seremony for an even more unique experience. A day we’ll remember forever!

Our private English-speaking guide was friendly, patient, and full of stories. At the Great Wall (Mutianyu section), the views were absolutely breathtaking. We had time to take photos, walk along the wall, and just soak in the moment. After that, we visited the Ming Tombs, which were quiet and full of ancient beauty. We enjoyed our tour and would recommend this to anyone!

The driver was sharing information along the way and had good insight into the area we drive. He was very friendly and made for a great day for the family. The cable car ride is not included, it costs 140 yuan per person for both ways. It is possible to walk, but rather steep.
