Full description

The historical center of Mindelo city is the cultural heart of Cape Verde. The colorful houses, colonial buildings, the bustling city life and the cozy harbor provide the lively atmosphere. The guide will pick you up by your accommodation and walk you along all the highlights in Mindelo.

This half-day tour is an ideal first introduction to the city. Discover the fish, fruit- and veggies market, the African square "Praca Estrela", the pink people's palace, the townhall, the Torre de Belem replica, and much more. Stop in the local shops to buy hand crafted souvenirs or locally grown rum (Grogue) and coffee. The most famous singer of the island, Cesaria Evora is a real icon of Sao Vicente and her museum is not to be missed during the city tour. The museum can be closed at irregular times and not be able to visit might occur.

The tour ends with a degustation of Cape Verdean products including goat cheese, hebiscus tea, papaya jam and couscous. Enjoy the tastes on this spectacular rooftop overlooking Mindelo bay. The guide will walk you back to your accommodation afterwards.

Nelson, our guide, was great sharing details of local sights in Mindelo. But, also provided info about other Cape Verde islands. As part of the tour we tried local corn cake with goat cheese and papaya jam and delicious juices. We bought local favorite cachupa on our own at the Cafe. Always great to try local snacks.

We had an enthusiastic guide who could tell us a lot about the history of Cape Verde. He took us to the famous buildings and markets and told us about the people, fruits and vegetables. Really recommended to see the most important places of Mindelo with background information. We did not have a tasting of local dishes. We did have a capairinha to finish. All in all a successful excursion but without a local tasting and no visit to the museum of Cesarie Evora. We did see the house of Cesaria.
