What People Are Saying About Metropolitan Museum of Art
This is a huge museum and even with the 3 hour extended tour we only just touched what was on display. Our guide took us through some of the many rooms and managed to pick out not only the famous exhibits, but also much less well know pieces which had wonderful stories revealed. When we arrived at the European Paintings our guide revealed a new world. He was extremely knowledgably about the fabulous works on display which rival the best museums in the world. We only realised after three and half hours that we had taken too much of our guides time. As we still had time before his next meeting he carried on and gave us even more of his time to reveal yet more marvels. I could not recommend this tour highly enough, if you go nowhere else in New York, this tour is a must.
I wasn't sure about booking with this company since they had no reviews but a search on Trip Advisor convinced me and I'm glad I did. I've been to the Met once before on a previous visit to NYC and was a little overwhelmed by the size of the place so I wanted a tour this time - three hours with Jason was the perfect answer. There were only 7 people in my group which was nice since it gave us time to chat and allowed Jason to interact with each of us personally and discuss our interests. It seems that there really is no limit to his knowledge - he was able to answer all of our questions on everything from the Ancient Egyptian Temple of Dendur to Washington Crossing the Delaware - not to mention his enthusiasm which was really infectious. Usually I get a little bored by the end of a tour but after this one I stayed another two hours just wandering around and applying the things he taught us to other pieces. Highly recommended - a perfect introduction to a huge collection.
The Empire State Building is without a doubt the most prestigious and best known attraction in New York City and it really lives up to this standard. Although you might get trapped waiting in line for a bit, even if you purchase this express ticket, the views from the top absolutely compensate for it (indeed, there are even short lines for the express ticket counter - although much shorter than for the regular tickets!). The Metropolitan Museum is mundane and has an astonishing collection of art that ranges from old Egyptian and pre-historic expositions to Impressionist paintings. You should bring at least a few hours to have a basic overview. In order to go into the details, probably a few weeks would not be enough! However, this is my personal highlight of the city and I see the museum every time I come to New York. Last but not least, New York and particularly Manhattan must be seen from the water, thus a cruise is a must-do!
Very good I must say. Guide was native New Yorker which is rare to see thing these days. They are like dinosaurus's.
Maybe. a New York Pass would have been the more favorable choice but this was a good selection too.
