Vasiliki (Lina) and Yiannis were absolutely amazing. The tour is absolutely worth the time and money, Lina is soooo knowledgeable and has an impressive background in Archaeology. She and Yianni are funny and kind, and really add to the experience. You cover so much during this tour, and whether you are religious (like me) or not (like my dad), you will all get so much out of the tour. We toured a church, a nunnery, visited multiple exteriors of other monasteries, walked along mountain paths to view hermit holes, and stopped along many scenic viewpoints for photos! We are so happy we chose to sign up last minute. Thank you, Lina!! (And extra bonus - they pick you up / drop you off from your hotel/airbnb).
Our tour was great. Our guide, Demetris aka Jim, was very engaging and knowledgeable. We made a stop or two on the way up to the monastery to get some history on the early hermitages in the caves. Jim not only told us about the history of the monasteries, but also relayed stories of local people and how they interacted with the monks over the years. And we we're only able to stop at one monastery, because it was the only one open in the late afternoon. (this was the sunset tour). We then proceeded to a local church. Jim took us inside and explained the set up of the church and the symbology of all of the paintings and frescos. We really liked this part. Within drove back up the mountains to Sunset rock to take pictures. Unfortunately, it was a very cloudy evening, so we could not see the sunset, but the view was still spectacular. WeWe were picked up and dropped off at the city center (others were picked up at their hotels). The van was nice and seated about 20 people.
